Obamacare..a Social Justice nightmare for the whole world

But the United States is not a selfish Nation. And every one of these medical "miracles," the products of free enterprise, under the supervision of government oversight, makes its way quite quickly to the rest of the world. Socialist countries, unable to produce the cures themselves because they have choked innovation with their own "centralized planner" philosophies, then buy the new American drugs at highly discounted prices for their own citizens. In effect, the American medical system quite heavily subsidizes all the other medical systems of the world with its own ingenuity and enterprise. Our doctors routinely travel around the globe, sharing and teaching their techniques to other doctors in other countries. Our charities routinely offer free medical aid around the globe.

Of course, once Obamacare makes all these "miracle" cures unprofitable, those new innovations will dry up here just as surely as they have in all the other socialized medical systems in the world.

    "miracle" cures unprofitable

"Miralcle cures" aren't profitable, treatments are profitable. Where's the cure for type 1 diabetes? Why would a company put any effort into researching a cure when the treatment makes so much more money?

Many money making health entities create diseases just so they can treat them. Soon everyone will be taking antidepressents, statins, blood pressure meds, sexual disfunction meds...just because some drug company bought of a panel of doctors establish the appropriate criteria.

Ahem, just to the north of the US there's a country called Canada. One of the world leaders in Pharma research and development. Across the Atlantic are countries named Germany and France, also world leaders in Pharma. All three countries have universal health care. This is another example of people reading an article and not even bothering to verify that it is true. If you bothered to research the claims of the article at all you would discover that in fact European Pharma companies are actually the world leader in drug research and development. You can see this for yourself here. I keep repeating this over and over, simply accepting something presented as news is a recipe for ignorance as surely as knowing nothing at all.

Exactly right. The fact is that it would not become unprofitable to make 'miracle cures' if we went to a nationalized health insurance or even nationalized health care system in general.

The people who say it would are by and large twisting facts in order to suit their agenda of "CAPITALISM OVER ALL... even if it kills us!"

And kill us it does. Every single day. I am not against capitalism, don't get me wrong, but I am certainly wary of my health care options being limited by the insurance policy I hold or the lack thereof.

How about your Health Care options being limited by the Government ?

      Might that be better?

Congress and the Obama Administration are confronting the nation's governors and state legislators with new challenges to states' traditional authority— and with the difficult decision of whether accepting intrusive and unprecedented federal mandates is in the best interests of their citizens.

With passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, Congress and the Obama Administration have made extravagant promises to the American people. Many of the most high-profile promises—such as extending the life of the Medicare Trust Fund, allowing those who are happy with their health insurance plans to keep them, lowering the cost of health care, and not raising taxes on families with annual incomes below $250,000—will not be fulfilled.[1]

Hey, but at least the Democrats get redistribution of wealth, increased taxes on some of the most productive people in this country, the wealthy, and they get another social program/handout that will help bring them more votes!

How you can lower health care for all to status akin to a handout is beyond me. Health is not a privilege reserved only for the rich. The whole purpose of government is to ensure the welfare of its citizens in areas such as defense, food and drug safety AND healthcare. People like yourself may think that nothing is gained by providing universal coverage but you are wrong. A healthy population is less expensive to maintain than not. The cost to the average citizen living in a non insured country is much higher. The health-care industry simply passes along the cost of caring for the uninsured along to those that are covered in the form of higher costs for procedures, which in turn raises the cost of Insurance. It's just a hidden tax. You may not like it but it's the truth.

Exactly right, Ditto. The fact is that health care for all falls RIGHT under the governments responsibility to 'promote the general welfare'. Really, if they wanted to nationalize things like oil production, food production, etc..... it would still fall under that.

The fact is that capitalism DOES NOT WORK for certain segments of the economy today. I mentioned 3 in the paragraph above, but there are some others where it doesn't work either.

I would take food production off that list. Countries like Russia, China, Cuba and north Korea have or used to have that system and they tended to have people starving to death.

Wow, I guess the US DOES dominate drug sales and research. Screw your efficiency report.6 of the top 12 firms are US.

Clearly our socialist education system has failed. The phrase "I despise socialist" is grammatically incorrect. Perhaps you meant "I despise socialists," or "I despise socialism." Since the phrase is a title, the words despise and socialist should be capitalized.

Depression, HBP and sexual dysfuntion are all Caused by an out of control government that puts it's stamp onto everything it can get it's hands on...Government can't get out of it's own way...Everything they get their hands on turns to disaster...They can't solve wars..they can't solve the immigration problem they can't solve the Environmental disasters....they go out and make speeches and give lip service to out of control problems to make us think they are working on the problem...The world needs a makeover...but needs to start with new leadership in Washington...These lightbulbs in Washington usually blow the first day on the job

                I despise socialist,

I gotta love it when people just feed me the ammunition themselves. Socialism, and I don't consider myself a socialist, has not failed. You are more than likely referring to COMMUNISM, which has failed and always will fail. You might want to look up the difference between the two.

Now as for your assertion that 6 of the 12 biggest firms are American, that was not even the point. If you scroll up and look at the headline of this seed you will see that it implies that health-care reform will endanger drug development. I correctly pointed out that this is false since European firms outperform US companies in bringing to market new drugs and that those same companies are based in countries with universal health care. To quote the report I linked to:

The U.S. share of approved new drugs did increase in the decade from 1993 to 2003, as compared to the previous decade from 1982 to 1992, but that simply reflected the fact that the pharmaceutical industry poured more of its research dollars into American labs, says study author Donald Light, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the Lokey visiting professor at Stanford. Over both decades, the U.S. share of approved new drugs lagged behind its share of research funding.

On a dollar-for-dollar basis, Europe was more productive in discovering new drugs than the U.S. was, and the European productivity advantage was greater in the period from 1993 to 2003 than it had been in the period from 1982 to 1992. Japan outstripped both Europe and the United States in pharmaceutical research productivity over these twenty years.

So try to keep up in the future before spouting off.

P.S.: Your nickname should read I despise Socialism. What it says now is barely english which I'm assuming is your alleged first language. Oh and polish your own turds mine get flushed.

Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.

In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.
